My name is Beth, and I’m a recent transplant from Boston to the Bay area. Over the past few years I’ve fallen in love with healthy food and cooking, and moving to Berkeley is a dream come true for an aspiring foodie. I’m a born and bred New Englander and I do miss my Cambridge neighborhood and all my friends and family. Berkeley is my new adventure though; my boyfriend and I basically said “hey, Berkeley sounds nice, let’s go there,” and just a few months later we were here! The move was truly an adventure (have you ever had three cats in a UHaul?), and now we’re settling in and have found a house and jobs.
My favorite place to take our many visitors is definitely the Ferry Building farmers’ market in San Francisco. The many stands of fresh produce, healthy food, vegan donuts and green juice are incredible, and I feel obligated to take everyone who visits me to the farmers’ market (ok, really it’s my favorite thing ever and I’ll take any excuse to go again). My other favorite Northern California thing is definitely the weather. I trained for the Boston Marathon in 2010 in a Boston winter, where dodging ice patches is cross training. I got to Berkeley and suddenly had no need for my many pairs of fleece-lined running tights. It’s incredible; I’m training for the Oakland half marathon, and I can get dressed for my run every day without having to check the weather! It’s always capris and short sleeve weather in the Bay area.
I started this blog to detail my cooking and running adventures in my new spot. I’ve been reading healthy living and food blogs for years now, and I wanted to better contribute to the community that has given so much to me.
